Marine damage and loss assessment
— Section 02
Marine Damage and Loss Assessment
Incidents at sea or in port can occur without warning: collisions with a quay or another vessel, grounding, accidental flooding, onboard fires, dismasting during a gale, or damage caused by faulty towing operations. In such situations, the surveyor's prompt response is crucial for protecting the owner's interests and ensuring the admissibility of the evidence gathered.
Assessment and Root Cause Analysis
Franck Gachet visits the site as quickly as possible to document findings through photographs and precise measurements, assess the extent of damage to structures and equipment, identify probable technical causes, and establish a documented causal link. He estimates repair costs based on quotes from specialized shipyards, distinguishing between damage directly attributable to the incident and issues arising from normal wear and tear or pre-existing defects.
The Damage Assessment Report
The damage assessment report is the cornerstone of the claim file submitted to the insurance company. Its technical quality and impartiality ensure a fair and prompt settlement. Franck Gachet provides services either at the request of the insured owner or when commissioned by the insurance company or a Protection and Indemnity (P&I) Club.
